Letter from the Chairwoman (2020)

mot de la presidente

2020 celebrates the 60th anniversary of our organisation. What a long way we’ve come since its foundation! I think of everyone who have contributed to its birth and growth. I think of them and I want to tell them that we try every day to make sure that what they have undertaken has not been in vain.

We wanted this anniversary to be a festive occasion, but our hearts are not in it. Our country, and especially our region, has been hit by a global health crisis that plunges into mourning many families, loved ones and friends. I think of those who, affected by COVID-19, have left us, but also of those who, in this time of confinement, have died and have not been accompanied to their final resting place.

Soon after hearing the news of Mr. André Logel’s death, we  are grieving the loss of Ms. Liliane Fullenwarth. Both had been members of our Board of Directors and both had dedicated their lives to animal welfare. We will miss them… Nevertheless, life goes on and each day has its share of good and bad surprises. Today we have many volunteers of all ages who have crossed the threshold of the shelter. In their own way, each one contributes to the smooth running of the organisation and always with the well-being of our protégés in mind.

More than ever we need the know-how of everyone so that the SPA de Haguenau & Environs can carry on. Let’s face it, the obligations related to management are more and more restrictive and time-consuming. In this time of crisis, it is likely that the finances will go down and I don’t dare to imagine the disastrous consequences for our shelter, but also for all the animal protection organisations.

That is why, today, I am appealing to the generosity of donors, from individuals to companies, so that we can continue to save and protect the animals we take in.

We need you, they need us…
